Pedro Paixao, Country Manager, Fidgen, Luxembourg
Since June 2019, Pedro Paixao has been the Country Manager for Fidgen in Luxembourg, where he is in charge of setting up corporate and regulated vehicles in the country. He previously served as Sales Director for Log Capital Management, where he handled the management of private clients in Portugal and Brazil, the setup of partnerships with custodian banks, fiduciaries and insurance companies in Luxembourg, Switzerland and Portugal, and the development of a "White Label Platform" for external asset managers. Pedro has also worked as a Relationship Manager for Baloise Vie, Senior Private Banker for CBD Quilvest, Business Developer for Portugal and LATAM for BIL, and Financial Advisor/Asset Management for Best Bank.
Thomas Jacobsen, Managing Director, Papilios Service Limited, Malta
Thomas Jacobsen is the founder of Papilio Services Ltd., and heads the organisation and the firm's private clients' department. He is the company's Money Laundering Reporting Officer and is also the company's accredited agent with Identity Malta for Malta's residence and citizenship by investment programmes. After graduating from the University of Oslo with a law degree specialising in International Tax, Thomas spent some time working as a lawyer for the Royal Norwegian Air Force.
Thomas relocated to Malta in 1997 and spent ten years working within the tax and legal department of PwC. He has, over the past years, assisted and advised a number of international and local clients with their tax compliance requirements and on various cross border issues. In 2007, Thomas was a co-founder of a boutique multi-disciplinary organisation that advised international clients and high-net-worth individuals on a variety of compliance, corporate, residence and tax issues. He has extensive experience in advising clients in the setup of complex cross-border structures through the use of Maltese Companies, Trusts, Funds, Partnerships and Foundations.
Besides income tax matters, including international tax optimisation, double tax treaties, capital gains tax and intellectual property structuring, Thomas has a great deal of knowledge about Maltese company law and corporate matters, including corporate governance and management and administration affairs.
Thomas is a fellow of the Malta Institute of Taxation (MIM) and a member of the Malta Institute of Financial Services Practitioners (IFSP), International Bar Association (IBA), the Investment Migration Council (IMC), the International Fiscal Association (IFA) and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).
Dr. Charis Savvides, Partner, Stelios Americanos & Co LLC, Cyprus
Dr Charis Savvides obtained his law degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 2005. He continued his postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom, with emphasis on International and European Business Law, obtaining his LL.M in International Commercial Law from the University of Nottingham and his PhD in Law from the University of Sheffield. His doctoral thesis was on competition law and more specifically on the EU regulatory framework on state aids to firms in difficulty.
Before joining our law firm, Dr Savvides was managing director of a boutique law firm in Nicosia, which was founded by him in 2012. Within a relatively short period of time since its establishment, his law firm had been developed into one of the most successful law firms in Nicosia in the fields of corporate and debt restructuring and financial and investment regulatory services, operating three distinct units, i.e. litigation, corporate and investment funds. In 2018, following Dr Savvides' keen interest and awareness over the disruptive nature of Blockchain Technology and the numerous legal challenges lying ahead, his law firm made its official debut in the Blockchain industry as well, as founding member of a consortium of law firms and other professionals, named BL Advisory International (BLA).
Following the merger of his law firm with Stelios Americanos & Co. LLC in May 2019, Dr Savvides became Partner and Head of three Departments of our law firm, namely: (i) Financial & Investment Regulatory Compliance, (ii) Restructuring, Receivership & Liquidation, and (iii) Innovation & Blockchain.
Besides his professional career as law practitioner, Dr Savvides is also Law Lecturer in the University of Nicosia since 2011, teaching European Union Law, Competition Law and Financial Law. Additionally, he is teaching Regulation and Digital Currencies, a law course offered by the University of Nicosia in the context of its MSc in Digital Currency.
Dr Savvides is regular speaker at professional seminars and conferences, where he shares his knowledge and experience about the regulatory status and trends in the fields of Investment Funds and Cryptocurrencies. In addition, he serves as non-executive director in a Forex company and in a private equity Alternative Investment Fund, both regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC).
